Terms of use
These terms are an agreement between you and Abhishek Rai, the individual in India who runs Y2K Chat ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Y2K Chat on Android or on the web, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
1. Who can use Y2K Chat
- You must be 18 or older. We ask at sign-up, and we close accounts we learn belong to someone younger.
- You need a sign-in we support (Google, or an email address). One person, one account. Don't create an account for someone else or pretend to be someone you're not.
- You can't use Y2K Chat if we have banned you before.
2. What Y2K Chat is
Y2K Chat is a private messenger for people who already know each other. You only talk to people you add with a friend code and who add you back. There is no search, no public profiles and no way to contact strangers. Messages and voice messages ("tapes") are deleted automatically 30 days after they are sent.
3. Your content
Your messages, voice messages, display name, personal and away messages are yours. You give us permission to store and deliver them to the people you send them to, and to keep copies of reported content as described in our Privacy policy, only as needed to run Y2K Chat and keep it safe. You're responsible for what you send.
4. What's not allowed
You may not use Y2K Chat to send, share or ask for:
- Anything that sexualises or exploits a child. This includes child sexual abuse material, grooming and sexual comments about minors. We have zero tolerance. See our Child safety standards.
- Harassment, bullying, threats, stalking or intimidation.
- Hate speech, or content that attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, caste, disability, gender, sexual orientation or similar characteristics.
- Sexual content involving anyone who hasn't agreed to it, including intimate images or recordings shared without consent.
- Content that promotes or glorifies violence, terrorism or violent extremism.
- Encouraging suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.
- Anything illegal: for example selling drugs or weapons, fraud, or breaking someone's copyright.
- Spam, scams, phishing, or links to malware.
- Someone else's private information (phone numbers, addresses, documents) without their permission.
- Impersonating another person or organisation.
You also may not try to get around our limits, break into accounts or our systems, collect other users' data, or use automated tools to send messages.
5. Reporting and what we do
- Long-press any message, voice message or person in the app to report it, or block someone. You can also email support@y2kchats.com.
- We review reports and may remove content, warn, suspend or permanently ban accounts. Banned people may not create new accounts.
- We keep a copy of reported content so we can review it, as explained in the Privacy policy.
- We report child sexual exploitation to the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to the authorities, and we cooperate with valid requests from law enforcement.
6. Optional features
"Online when you're free" and "Now listening" are off unless you turn them on, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings. The Privacy policy explains what they share.
7. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account, or as described on our account deletion page. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the law, or that put other people at risk.
8. No warranty, and limits on liability
Y2K Chat is provided free, "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it running and secure but can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that messages will always be delivered. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for what other users say or do. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we'll tell you in the app before it applies. If you keep using Y2K Chat after that, the new terms apply.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes will be handled by the courts of India, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
